Rumours that Rory O’Carroll is set for a return to the Dublin team have been greatly exaggerated, according to Paul Mannion.

O’Carroll won three All-Irelands with the Dubs in 2011, ’13 and ’15 but has missed out on their last three Sam Maguire Cup successes after relocating to New Zealand.

He was spotted back in the capital in recent days, leading to suggestions that he could be on course for a dramatic return to Jim Gavin’s full-back line in 2019.

However, his Kilmacud Crokes clubmate Mannion has put an end to the speculation, informing gaa.ie that O’Carroll is only home for a wedding and won’t be returning full time in the foreseeable future:

“Maybe next year at some stage, I think. I don't think football is at the front of his mind now. We'd love to have him back, especially with Crokes.

“I don't know what match fitness or shape he's in at the moment, whether he's match fit or not. No, I don't think he was looking to line out anyway.”
