Sheedy - 'a good day at the office'

Tipperary's Dan McCormack and manager Liam Sheedy before the Munster SHC clash with Cork

Liam Sheedy cut a contented figure after Tipperary opened their Munster SHC campaign with an impressive victory away to Cork.

"It was a good day at the office," he told RTÉ after the 2-28 to 1-24 win at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

"These guys can play and I said it not long ago - we prepared really well and we knew what was ahead of us playing a team going for three in-a-row in Munster. Unless you perform you don’t win. We got a good start, but our discipline wasn’t good enough and we gave them eight placed balls in the first half.

"We got a great start to the second half, John McGrath’s goal was a piece of magic and it was hard for Cork to come back from that."

The Tipp manager was already turning his thoughts to next weekend's game against a Waterford team smarting from their first round loss to Clare.

"Two points will get you nowhere in this championship. The margins are really tight, this is a phenomenal championship, the best around - one win won’t get you through and that’s all we have," he continued.

"The recovery starts now. We have momentum after winning a match so the lads are mad to get out there again next Sunday and we are aware of the challenge that’s ahead of us."
