Wexford manager Davy Fitzgerald will wait to later in the week to check on the fitness of some key players.

This Sunday, the Model County face Tipperary at Innovate Wexford Park and they have injury concerns over Lee Chin and Rory O’Connor with the latter lining out for DCU in last night’s Fitzgibbon Cup semi final.

However, a plethora of players are missing through suspension, injury and absenteeism for this weekend’s clash, with Fitzgerald admitting to the Wexford People that it will be difficult against Tipp.

“Both players (Chin and O’Connor) are coming back from long term injuries and have little game time,” said Fitzgerald.

“I don’t like throwing players into a game like that for I do not know if they would be up to seventy minutes hurling.

“I will not make a decision until later in the week. The same goes for Paul Morris who has not trained in a little over a week, while Mark Fanning took a knock in training, but Eanna Martin is due some game time.

“I’m happy with the two performances in the league given we were down so many players. We could have got a result against Limerick, went down to Cork and won. While we are short a number of players it’s an opportunity for other players to step up.

“Look, Tipperary will be coming down seeking the points, so we realise the task ahead of us. It will be difficult but we will be up for the challenge.”
