Drumcliffe/Rosses Point club notes

August 10, 2020

Our senior men's footballers remain firmly in contention for a place in the knockout stages of this year's Sligo senior football championship after an impressive 2-13 to 0-10 success against St Mary's in Group 1 at Markievicz Park on Saturday evening. Paul Logan scored 1-8 as the team chalked up a deserved victory. Their final group match is against Eastern Harps in three weeks time.

The junior team began their 'B' championship campaign last Monday with a comprehensive win against Geevagh.

The women's intermediate team had a bye last weekend. They are at home to Owenmore Gaels this Sunday morning at 10:30am.

The death has been announced of former Cavan All-Ireland winning footballer Dr Jim McCabe, who lived in the parish at Glencar in Sligo. Jim won the Sam Maguire with Cavan in 1952 among many other football accolades, including a Connacht junior football championship winners medal with Sligo in the fifties. You can read a full tribute to him on the club's website and Facebook page. The club extends its deepest sympathy to Jim's wife Kay and the McCabe family.

The boys minor footballers made it three wins out of three in the minor 'B' championship on Wednesday night with a 7-15 to 2-8 win against Tourlestrane.

There was another impressive victory for the girls minor footballers too - in the 'A' championship as they beat Calry/St Joseph's 4-11 to 0-12 at Oxfield on Tuesday night.

Hard luck to our boys under-16 footballers who lost out to St Mary's in their latest championship game on Friday evening, on a final scoreline of DRP 3-7 St Mary's 7-10.

There was a good win for the DRP under-14 hurlers on Thursday evening as they beat Calry/St Joseph's at Hazelwood by 5-17 to 5-4.

The girls under-14 team recorded a fine 6-12 to 3-4 victory away to Ballisodare in the 'C' championship on Sunday.

Our girls under-12 footballers continued their unbeaten run with a victory against Coolera/Strandhill in Oxfield on Friday evening. They will play St Mary's next Friday (Aug 14th) in Kent Park at 7pm.

Our under-12 hurlers play Coolera/Strandhill in Ransboro this Tuesday evening at 6:30pm.
