Drumcliffe/Rosses Point club notes

October 21, 2019

What can we say about last Saturday’s minor ‘B’ championship final in Collooney?  Two fine teams produced an epic hour of football. It was a contest that could have swung either way. In the end, opponents St Mary’s got there by a single point, on a final scoreline of 4-11 to 3-13, but the DRP lads can hold their heads high. Well done to all the players and the hard-working management team led by Des Henry on a very encouraging season.

This Monday evening is a big one for Benbulben Gaels under 16 hurlers. They play Western Gaels in the county championship final in Scarden at 7:30pm. Best of luck to the players and management team led by John O’Callaghan.

Well done to all the pupils from Realt na Mara Rosses Point and Rathcormac who took part in the Cumann na mBunscol hurling blitz at Oxfield last Wednesday.

Our women’s intermediate footballers will be in action at the same venue (Connolly Park, Collooney) on Sunday morning next when they play Owenmore Gaels in the Division 2 league final. Mike Healy’s side have impressed en route to the final and the team would appreciate big team support for Sunday’s game. Throw-in is at 10:30am.

The boys under 13 footballers are through to the semi-finals of the Féile under 13 competition in Sligo after an impressive 4-13 to 3-2 win against Coolera/Strandhill on Sunday.

There is a meeting for all club coaches this Monday night (Oct 21st) in Oxfield at 9pm. All underage nursery coaches, in particular, are asked to attend.

Our Saturday morning GAA nursery will draw to a close this Saturday, Oct 26th with an end-of-season party for all players born from 2009 to 2015. Details wil be communicated to parents/guardians during the week. The ‘grown-ups’ are especially to attend the party as we thank all our young players for their dedication throughout the season.
