It was a very special weekend for the DRP girls under 14 footballers who won the county ‘A’ championship title on Saturday evening with a memorable win against CT Gaels at Kent Park in Ballydoogan. DRP won on a final scoreline of 8-4 to 3-8 after extra-time in what was a superb team display. Under the terrific guidance of manager Tom O’Boyle and his management team of Trevor Ferguson and Frank Moylan, the girls produced a fabulous display, cheered on by wonderful club support. Our congratulations to everybody involved with this success. Enjoy the celebrations girls.

 

Anything the under 14 girls could do, the minor girls team were able to match as they came from seven points down at half-time in last Wednesday’s minor shield championship final in Scarden to beat Calry/St Joseph’s by five points on a final scoreline of 2-17 to 1-15. Second-half goals from Katie Maguire and Caoimhe Connor proved decisive in what was an excellent second-half display all round. Big congrats to the players and the management team led by Barry and Tim O’Sullivan.

 

Hard luck to the boys under 14 footballers who bowed out of the ‘A’ championship at the semi-final stage last Friday evening, following a 4-7 to 0-7 loss to Eastern Harps.

 

Our senior men’s footballers pushed county champions Tourlestrane all the way last Saturday in the Belfry senior championship quarter-final at Scarden. The final scoreline of 2-9 to 1-6 doesn’t accurately reflect the closeness between the sides. We were just two points behind as the contest ticked into added time. It was a commendable display all round and manager Fergal O’Flaherty and his players can take great heart from where we stand in the senior club championship picture in Sligo. We weren’t far away on Saturday.

 

A special mention too for one of our club players Tommy Finnegan who helped County Sligo Golf club reached the national final of the Barton Shield competition last Friday. 

 

Our women’s intermediate footballers resumed their Division 2 league campaign on Sunday morning with an impressive 6-11 to 0-8 win against Curry 

 

The final urban league series of the season for our under 9 and under 11 footballers takes place this Wednesday evening in Oxfield at 6:30pm when we welcome Coolera/Strandhill. Players are asked to assemble by 6:15pm. 

 

Saturday morning nursery coaching will continue until Saturday, Oct 26th, when we will have our end-of-season wrap party. Please note that due to the Sligo schools cross country finals coming to Rathcormac in two weeks time, the coaching sessions on Sat October 5th will take place in Oxfield. A reminder that hurling coaching for new players continues at Rathcormac at 11:30am each Saturday after the nursery football session. New players are always very welcome.

 

There was disappointment for the boys under 16 footballers who were beaten by St Mary’s last Monday evening in the county ‘A’ championship semi-final by 2-12 to 0-9.
