Drumcliffe/Rosses Point club notes

September 12, 2018

Congrats to our boys U16 footballers who have reached the county ‘A’ championship final following Monday evening’s spirited 1-12 to 1-9 win over Ballymote/Bunninadden in the semi-final. It’s due recognition for this group of players who have worked so hard all year to get to this point. Best wishes to manager Des Henry and the players in the final, which will be a North Sligo derby against neighbours St Molaise Gaels. The final takes place next Tuesday evening (Sept 18th) in Scarden at 6:15pm. The team would appreciate big club support.

Special mention to Ross Chambers who played a key role in Monday’s win. He broke his collarbone playing rugby the following day. The club wishes him a speedy recovery.

The senior men’s footballers’ Belfry senior club championship relegation final against St John’s will take place on Saturday September 23rd in Scarden at 4:30pm.

Our junior men’s footballers will play the winners of the Castleconnor/St John’’s play-off in the ‘B’ championship semi-final on Saturday September 29th, also at Scarden.

There was disappointment for our ladies intermediate footballers last Sunday morning in the Connacht Gold intermediate championship when they were beaten by Calry/St Joseph’s in Hazelwood by four points (6-12 to 6-8). The team didn’t fire on all cylinders and, with just two matches remaining in the group stages, DRP have a battle on their hands to reach the county final. Sunday’s team and scorers: Rachel Quigley, Ella McDermott, Aimee Oates, Avril Clancy, Lisa Mcloughlin, Michelle McNamara, Kate keys, Sinead Regan (1-0), Jayne McCormack, Emily McCormack, Amanda Healy (3-5), Laura Oates (1-1), Róisín Healy, Molly Brady (1-2), Grace Casserly, Subs; Tracy O’Boyle, Megan Brady, Aisling O’Reilly. The team’s next match is against Coolera/Strandhill (at home) on September 23rd.

Hard luck to the DRP girls U14 footballers who lost their county semi-final to a strong Tourlestrane side at Oxfield on Monday evening.

Good luck to the boys U14 footballers who play Easkey/St Farnan’s in their ‘B’ championship semi-final this Thursday evening in Scarden at 6:30pm.

The U13 Féile footballers travel to Coola this Sunday morning to play Shamrock Gaels in their opening league match at 11am.

If you missed the opening episode of the new GAA Underdogs series on TG4, our own Niall Canning was one of the stars of the show. Episode 2 is on this Thursday night at 9:30pm. Tune in!
