Drumcliffe/Rosses Point Club Notes

August 27, 2018

There was disappointment for both our senior men's and intermediate ladies football teams on the championship front at the weekend.

The men put in a gutsy display against St Molaise Gaels on Saturday evening at Kent Park in their concluding Group 2 game of the senior club championship before going down on a final scoreline of 1-11 to 0-9. We dominated possession for long periods of this game but weren't able to translate that possession into enough scores. The result means we will once again have to come through a relegation play-off, which also involves St John's and Eastern Harps, in order to preserve our senior championship status for 2019.

Our ladies intermediate footballers opened their championship campaign last Sunday morning with a trip to Tubbercurry. Despite two goals from Amanda Healy, and one each from her sister Roisin and Sinead Regan, it wasn't enough to prevent opponents CT run out winners by three points on a final scoreline of 2-15 to 4-6. The girls play Owenmore Gaels at Oxfield next Sunday morning at 10am. Last Sunday's team was: Rachel Quigley, Orlaith Furey (Capt), Avril Clancy, Shirley Nicholson, Lisa McLoughlin, Michelle McNamara, Kate Keyes, Sinead Regan 1-0, Jayne McCormack, Laura Oates, Amanda Healy 2-2, Molly Brady 0-1, Roisin Healy 1-3, Tara Donohoe 0-1, Tracey O'Boyle. Subs: Aimee Oates, Megan Brady, Aisling O'Reilly.

There was another encouraging championship win for the DRP U14 girls footballers last Monday evening as they travelled to south Sligo and recorded a 4-11 to 5-4 win against CT Gaels. That's two wins out of two so far.

The boys U14 footballers host Tourlestrane in Oxfield in the 'B' championship this Monday evening at 7pm.

The club's All-Ireland football final ticket draw will take place this Thursday night (Aug 30th) in Davis's Restaurant at 9pm.

All-Ireland final Sunday will be a special occasion for one club member this weekend. Rianne Smith will represent Sligo in the Cumann na mBunscol match at half-time during the senior final between Dublin and Tyrone.

The club will have two representatives on the Sligo Under 16 team competing in the upcoming Ted Webb Cup. Lee Cummins and Eoghan Smith are both on the Sligo panel for matches this week against Leitrim and Galway.

A final reminder for club members to please return their new club lotto tickets to any club officer by this Tuesday please. New subscribers will be entered in a dedicated All-Ireland football final ticket draw this weeks, (See our social media pages for confirmation of date time etc). The lotto is a vital fundraiser for the club. Tickets cost €50 which guarantees you entry for 12 monthly draws. For more info, contact Club Treasure Mary Carway on 0864181201 or any club officer.
