An opening day Christy Ring Cup win is imperative according to Kildare manager David Herity.

The Lilywhites begin their campaign with an away clash against Roscommon this Sunday afternoon.

With Meath and London also in the group, the former Kilkenny All-Ireland winner has stressed the importance of getting off to a good start.

Herity told the Leinster Express that preparations for the championship have gone well in recent weeks.

“It’s May 12th away to Roscommon, followed six days later with Meath at home; after that it’s London away two weeks later,” said Herity.

“They are the three group games and we will need two (wins) to qualify, so it’s extremely important that we get off to a win in the opener against Roscommon; no excuses, the lads are flying at the moment and hopefully the guys can bring that form into that match.”
