Horan odds-on to replace Rochford

James Horan

James Horan is the early bookies' favourite to succeed Stephen Rochford as Mayo senior football manager.

Rochford announced his resignation yesterday evening, citing a lack of support from the County Board.

Former boss Horan, who led Mayo to All-Ireland finals in 2012 and 2013, has been listed as an 8/13 favourite to take up a second stint at the helm.

Former Donegal All-Ireland-winning manager Jim McGuinness' name continues to be linked with the Mayo hot seat and he is 9/4 second favourite, while Michael Solan - who led the county to an All-Ireland U21 title in 2016 as well as reaching the inaugural All-Ireland U20 final this year - can be backed at 9/2.

Roscommon manager Kevin McStay is 9/1; former Mayo star Maurice Sheridan (who led NUIG to the Sigerson Cup final) is a generous 12/1; and John Maughan - despite having been recommended for the Offaly job - is 16/1.
