Offaly manager John Maughan believes that he has learned a lot about his players following their hard earned win over Louth last weekend.

In terrible conditions, Offaly had to withstand a strong second half performance by Louth to hold on for another two points on the FL3 board.

It was Offaly’s first win of the campaign and keeps their promotions hopes alive, but for Maughan it was all about the character of the performance.

“That win means so much to us. I think we are a far better team coming out than we were coming in because we showed that kind of character and resilience to get over the line,” Maughan told the Midland Tribune.

“It was tough, Louth are a difficult team to play against in any kind of conditions but particularly those conditions we had, very wet and heavy, underfoot conditions, difficult.”
