SENIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP RD 3

Raheen Senior Footballers have a fight on their hands to avoid the dreaded relegation play off in the Senior B Championship as they lost their Rd 3 encounter against Tubber in Pullough last Friday evening on a scoreline of 0-18 to 1-10 which leaves them with 3 defeats out of 3. Raheen opened the scoring with a pointed free from Conor Carroll inside the first minute. Tubber then got up and running scoring 3 points in a row before Raheen got the goal on 9 mins when Liam Boland’s high ball in from midfield was caught by Conor Carroll on the edge of the square who turned and shot which was blocked by the keeper but got a punch on the rebound to knock it over the line to the net. Niall Dempsey immediately kicked over a point from out on the sideline to put Raheen 2 up but this would be as good as it would get as Tubber then added 6 points to Raheen’s 2 over the remainder of the half to lead at the break 0-09 to 1-04. Tubber increased their lead with a point inside the first min of the second half and this is how it remained until the sides added 2 points apiece from the 10th to the 15th min. Tubber then found a higher gear as they rolled off 6 points in a row over the next 10 mins seal it and while Raheen did respond with the last 4 points it was just too late.

U15 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Na Fianna U15 Footballers missed a great opportunity to get back on track in the Championship as they lost to Rhode in Geashill in Rd 4 last Monday week on a scoreline of 2-09 to 1-08. Na Fianna created the early opportunites opening up a lead of 3 points to 1 midway through the first half but the numerous missed chances during this time would prove very costly later on. Rhode hit back with 2 quickfire points in the 20th min to draw level before Na Fianna pulled clear again with 3 points without reply in the last min and stoppage time to lead at the break 0-06 to 0-03. The first 10 mins saw 3 goals scored, 2 for Rhode in the 1st & 8 mins sandwiched either side of a specular effort from Na Fianna’s Kieran Coonan in the 4th min as he caught a high ball outside the square turned, and ran in before blasting his shot to the centre of the net to re-take a 3 point lead. Thereafter Rhode took over scoring 6 points to Na Fianna’s 2 points which only came in the last min and stoppage time.

U13 A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Na Fianna U13 Football No 1 Team secured their place in the Quarter Finals of the A Championship with a big win over Tullamore in O’Brien Pk, Tullamore in the final round of the group stage last Friday evening on a scoreline of 2-17 to 2-07 overturning the result when the sides met in the Div 1 League Final a few weeks ago and the group stage of the League a few months ago. The result sees Na Fianna most likely finish as runners up to St Rynaghs in Group 1 which would see them face Ferbane / Belmont who finished 3rd in Group 2 in the Quarter Final. Special praise must go to Na Fianna captain on the night Aaron Rattigan who showed his dedication to the team by leaving a family wedding to play and led by example kicking 5 points which were decisive in getting the win. Na Fianna put over 10 points in the first half with Tullamore getting a late goal to keep in touch leaving it 0-10 to 1-03 at the break. In the second half 2 Na Fianna goals early & late on both scored by Conor Bracken sealed the win.

Raheen got off to the best possible start as Lee Mulpeter opened the scoring with a goal inside 3 mins but Kinnitty responded with a goal of their own within a minute to open their account and set them on their way so by halftime it was the men from the south who were in control with a comfortable lead of 3-04 to 1-03.
