SENIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP 1ST RD

The start of the Senior B Football Championship began with disappointment for Raheen Senior Footballers as they came out on the wrong side of a 0-16 to 0-06 scoreline against Bracknagh in Rd 1 last Saturday evening in Ballyfore. Both sides opened the scoring with a point apiece inside the first 10 mins but this would be as good as it would get for Raheen . Over the remaining 20 mins of the half Bracknagh tagged on 6 points to Raheen’s 1 to hold a commanding lead of 0-07 to 0-02 at the break with the only downside for Bracknagh was the loss of their no 7 Edward Mather to a black card after 20 mins. Raheen needed a good start to the second half to give themselves a chance and that they sort of got with 2 points one after the other on 3 mins from Conor Carroll and Kaelyn Thompson after Bracknagh had opened the second half scoring with a point. Thereafter Bracknagh took control adding 9 points to Raheen’s 2 over the remainder of the game to quash any hope of a Raheen comeback with Bracknagh’s wing forward Mikey Cunningham making his championship debut leading the way with 4 points.

Na Fianna club notes

U15 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP RD 2

It’s 2 wins out of 2 in the Cjampionship for Na Fianna U15 Footballers as they came out on top against neighbours St Broughans in Rd 2 last monday week in geashill on a scoreline of 1-13 to 0-12. Na Fianna got off to a good start opening the scoring with the first 2 points inside 5 mins but a first half tally of 9 wides would partly explain why it would be a further 20 mins before their next point would arrive by which time St Broughans had got off the mark with 3 points to go in front. A point apiece followed before Dylan Cahill put over a free on the stroke of half time to give Na Fianna the lead at the break 0-05 to 0-04. A blistering opening 10 mins of the second half saw Na Fianna tag on 5 points to St Broughans 1 to edge clear. Then St Broughans staged a recovery scoring 6 points to Na Fianna’s 2 over the next 18 mins to bring it back to a single point game but the pick of the scores was a fine high shot from the left corner from Na Fianna’s Ciaran Coonan. With St Broughans pressing for the equaliser a brillant solo run from Na Fianna’s Brian Malone in the 29th min  from the right wing in before blasting the ball to the net for the only goal and to be sure he followed it up with a point. St Broughans did complete the scoring in the stoppage time but it was too late.

U13 A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Na Fianna U13 No 1 Football team performed admirably as they recovered from a bad start to just lose out to Edenderry in Rd 2 of the Championship last Wednesday evening in Edenderry on a scoreline of 3-12 to 4-06. Edenderry got going straight from the off opening the scoring with 1-03 inside 4 mins. Na Fianna then got off the mark with their first point quickly followed their furst goal when Aaron Rattigan’s shot from centrefield was deflected to the net by an Edenderry back. Edenderry added a point before Na Fianna got level on 9 mins when Ryan Kinahan’s shot just to the left outside the square went all the way to the right corner of the net. Edenderry hit back with their second goal immediately followed by a point. Both sides added a point apiece before Ryan Kinahan struck for his second and Na Fianna’s 3rd goal on 22 mins. Edenderry completed the first half scoring with a point in the last min so at the break it was Edenderry up by 2 points 2-07 to 3-02. Another early Edenderry goal along with 4 points pushed them clear. A couple of pointed frees from Ryan Kinahan for Na Fianna midway through the half along with goal no 4 for Na Fianna on 22 mins when Conor Bracken’s shot was carried back over the line by the Edenderry keeper followed by another Na Fianna pointed free cut the deficit back to just 3 points but with both sides adding just 1 further point apiece Edenderry held on to claim the win.
