Ballycumber Remembers.

To mark the end of the Great War on the 11th November 1918, the men and women from the Ballycumber area who fought in World War 1 will be remembered in the Barracks, Ballycumber on Sunday morning next at 11.30am. All are welcome to attend especially family members of soldiers. The names and regiments of eighty people will be displayed and accompanied by appropriate music and readings. Light refreshments will be served. A visit to view Commonwealth War Graves at Liss Cemetery can be arranged.

Offaly and The Great War.

The launch of a collection of essays, including one from Ballycumber, on the 1914 -18 period in Ireland will be held in Tullamore Central Library on Sunday next at 2.30. The book which was edited by Michael Byrne is a significant contribution to our understanding of how World War 1 impacted on County Offaly.

Division 5 Football League.

Ballycumber gained two more valuable points in the league with a victory over Ballycommon on Sunday. The visitors were first to score with a well taken point but Ballycumber quickly replied. A goal by Emmet Kelly was soon followed by two from Colin Daly and for the remainder of the game the home side kept the scores flowing. In fairness to Ballycommon they never gave up and added 2—6 to their total.

Ballycumber’s final game in the league is against Tubber.

Bridge House Hotel Under 15 Football Championship.

St Manchan Gaels staged a remarkable comeback in their quarter final clash with Clara in O’Brien Park on Wednesday evening. Trailing in the first half by 10 points they came storming into the game in the second half. They trailed by two points close to full time. In injury time “The Gaels” scored a goal to lead by one, but Clara equalised to send the game to extra time. Remarkably St Manchan Gaels scored 2—9 to a point from Clara to leave the final score at 4—21 to 4—6.

Unfortunately their Semi Final game against Ballinamere Durrow in Mucklagh on Sunday did not turn out as they would have wished. In a high scoring game Ballinamere Durrow won on a score of 5—10 to 2—12 and qualified for the Final against St Broughans.

The players and management put in a great effort during the year and will form the basis of teams in the future.

Ballycumber Dance Class.

Learn how to Jive, Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot and Line dance. Dance Classes every Monday night from 8pm in Ballycumber Community Centre.  Beginners class 8 - 9, Improvers from 9 - 10 and dancing for all from 10 - 11pm.  Great exercise and good fun, no partners required.

The numbers drawn this week were 7,8,24,29. No jackpot winner, two match three winners. Next week’s draw will be held in Gussieson Monday night at 10 o’clock for a jackpot of 10,400 euros.
