U13 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP WHITE GROUP FINAL

Na Fianna U13 Football No 2 Team battled bravely but had to settle for second best against neighbours St Broughans in the White Group Championship Final last Saturday in BNM O’Connor Pk, Tullamore as St Broughans claimed the title on a scoreline of 3-11 to 1-02. This was St Broughans only U13 team against Na Fianna’s second team so it was always going to be a long shot for Na Fianna and so it proved to be. In the first half the Na Fianna back line cleared almost every ball that came within the 21 restricting St Broughans to shoot from distance. Leading by just 5 points to 1 a speculative shot on 25 mins resulted in St Broughans first goal from Charlie Keogh a player with strong connections to Na Fianna as his 3 uncles all play for Raheen. St Broughans added 2 more points before the break to lead at half time by 1-07 to 0-01. Any hope of a comeback by Na Fianna were quashed within 5 mins of the re-start as St Broughans sealed the win scoring 2-01 without reply. Na Fianna never gave up and a fine goal from Rory Grehan on 22 mins a cracking left footed shot from outside the square being the highlight of the day for Na Fianna which along with 2 points from Danny Gorman completed Na Fianna’s scoring tally. Special mention must go to Na Fianna’s Colm Nolan who made the step up from U11 and he proved to be one of Na Fianna’s best players on the day winning ball up and down the field.

NA FIANNA: Ryan Kinahan, Finn Hassett, Tadhg Clear, Rory Grehan (1-00), Evan Gorman, Sean Cuskelly, Danny Gorman (0-02), Cillian Murphy, Ryan Mulpeter, Cein Gorman, Colm Nolan, Jamie Byrne, Jack Fox.

SUBS: Ronan Hooper (for Evan Gorman), Dara Grehan (for Jack Fox), Donnocha Cooney (for Cillian Murphy), Cian Flood (for Jamie Byrne), Shane Hackett (for Dara Grehan), Sam Dunne (for Ryan Kinahan), Michael Cooney, Stevie Byrne, Tony Byrne, Sean Dunne, Sean Kelly.
