Offaly SHC: Belmont beat Birr for first time to reach semis

Belmont recorded their first ever championship victory over Birr yesterday to join champions Kilcormac/Killoughey, Coolderry and St. Rynagh's in the last four of the Offaly SHC.

Damien Egan's late goal handed the west Offaly club a historic 1-14 to 0-15 win over the four-time All-Ireland club champions in a dramatic quarter-final at Bord na Mona O'Connor Park. Belmont's semi-final opponents will be Coolderry, who had already qualified for the last four along with Kilcormac/Killoughey as the top two finishers in the group phase.

In the other quarter-final in Birr on Saturday, Aidan Treacy was St. Rynagh's scorer-in-chief as they ovecame Shinrone on a 0-17 to 0-14 scoreline to earn a semi-final date with Kilcormac/Killoughey.
