SENIOR B FOOTBALLCHAMPIONSHIP

After the two and half month intercounty break Raheen Senior Footballers picked up their first Senior B Championship win of the year when the action resumed last weekend as they came from behind to claim the 2 points against St Rynaghs last Thursday evening in Mucklagh on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-08. The game got off to the worst possible start as St Rynaghs opened the scoring with a goal on 4 mins. Both sides sent over their first 2 points before Raheen drew level on 14 mins with their goal when James Lalor's high ball in was taken by Brian Crombie in the square and though his first shot was blocked there was no stopping the rebound. The sides added 3 points apiece before the break so at halftime it was 1-05 apiece with the 3 Raheen scores being equalisers. St Rynaghs were again first off the mark in the second half with 2 points inside the first 10 mins but incredibly this would be their last score until deep in injury time as Raheen hit over 6 points in a row in the next 15 mins to go from 2 down to 4 up taking the lead for the first time on 12 mins.

U13 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

There was more joy for the Na Fianna U13 Footballers No 2 Team as they also faced St Manchan Gaels No 2 team last Saturday morning in Geashill in Rd 3 of the Championship as Na Fianna bravely withstood a late fightback by St Manchans to record a Win by the minimum margin on a scoreline of 4-10 to 3-12 to make 2 wins out of 3 in the group. Na Fianna with just the bare 13 players necessary to field got off to a dream start with 2 goals inside the first 5 min from Cillian Murphy and Donnocha Cooney along with a third goal midway through the first half again from Donnocha Cooney so by half time Na Fianna led by 3-05 to 1-05. In the second half Na Fianna scored 1 more goal a spectacular effort direct from a 45 by Cillian Murphy as St Machans fought their way back into it scoring 2-07 including 1-04 in the final 10 mins but particular praise must go to Na Fianna keeper Sam Dunne who pulled off a number of great saves without which a much different result would have ensued.

NA FIANNA:  Sam Dunne, Tadhg Clear, Jack Fox, Colm Nolan, Ryan Mulpeter (0-02) , Jamie Byrne, Danny Gorman (0-03), Evan Gorman, Ryan Kinahan, Cein Gorman (0-04), Cillian Murphy (2-00), Donnocha Cooney (2-01), Michael Cooney.
