Emyvale club notes

October 29, 2019

U17 They say that ‘Good things come to those who wait’ – Well never a truer word was spoken when on Sunday last our magnificent U-17 team captured the Francie Connolly cup in Clones and bridged a 69 year gap. This championship win has resulted in the team completing the double this year by winning the Division one league back in July.

Emyvale who played Latton on Sunday last in glorious conditions in Clones opened their scoring through Karl Gallagher. Latton soon equalised and then were awarded a penalty after 10 minutes in which Darragh Dempsey tucked it into the bottom left hand corner. Latton were leading 1.0 to 0.1. Emyvale then started to find their rytham and at half time they held a slender one point lead of 1.2 to 6pts with the scores coming from Michael Hamill, Aidan Mc Kenna and three from captain Ben Ryan.

Both teams traded scores in the opening period of the second half and in the 40minutes it was all square. Emyvales opening goal then came through the boot of Ben Ryan through a 45. This gave Emyvale a three point lead 1.8 to 1.5. Then a well worked moved up the field with Michael Hamill, Kar Gallagher exchanging passes and Rio Corrigan was on the end to score Emyvales second goal of the game. Latton to their credit didn’t falter and through the boot of Darragh Demspey kept closing the gap. However, Emyvale with some tremendous defending in injury time held on to create another piece of history and become double League and Championship winners. Captain Ben Ryan accepted the cup and to round of a great day he picked up the man of the match award to. This adds to a great year for Ben picking up man of the match in the league final earlier in the year.

Well done to everyone involved in bringing such pride and enthusiasm to the entire parish. This was evident on Sunday night when a large turnout was present to welcome the team back home to Tully. A huge word of thanks to the players, management and parents for their hard efforts throughout the season.
