2019 McElvaney’s Intermediate Championship:

Aughnamullen was the venue for this eagerly anticipated Mc Elvaney’s Intermediate Championship meeting of neighbouring clubs Corduff and Magheracloone. Whenever these clubs meet it is always a tight affair and Sunday was no exception. Corduff pushed Magheracloone to the limit and they had to stage a last ditch recovery to get over the line against a battling and resilient Corduff in this thrilling, high scoring affair that was in the balance with just minutes to go.

Fearghal Hanratty the game’s top scorer with 0-14 from play and placed balls was executioner in chief as Corduff pushed the pre-match favourites right to the death.

Magheracloone led at half time by 0-12 to 0-8 and they extended that out to six points in the early minutes of the second half but they had to withstand a power packed third quarter from Corduff that saw them hit six unanswered points between the 4th and 15th minutes to completely wipe out Magheracloone’s advantage.

Crucially though Corduff were not able to get their noses in front and Magheracloone rallied to open a five points lead by the 22nd minute and looking like they had weathered the storm.

Corduff’s fighting spirit stood to them as they registered an unanswered 1-2, the goal by Jamie King to again throw the issue wide open with the sides level.

As before though when the chips were down Magheracloone rallied for three quick fire points but they also had to withstand some anxious moments in defence as Corduff came in search of a second goal but an exchange of points in stoppage time saw the game out with Magheracloone three to the good at the finish but also with plenty to ponder as they plot their way forward.

Magheracloone head for the semifinal while Corduff meet Monaghan Harps in the next round which is a must win match.

Massive thanks to the big match sponsors Tom Fox and Colm Marron, CM Precision Engineering. As Always, please support our club sponsors.

Corduff Ladies:

U16 ChampionshipFinal:

The curtain came down on the U16 journey last Saturday in Cremartin. Having reached the final they played Tyholland. Tyholland stated their intent from the throw-in and in the 4th minute registered a goal.Corduff’s Caharlotte Higgins cancelled that out with a super goal of her own putting the sides level in the 6th minute. It was Tyholland that pushed forward from this point registering 2-04 before the aforementioned Charlotte tapped over a point while Katie Walsh added to the Corduff tally with a free on the half time whistle. Halftime score was Corduff 1-2 Tyholland 3-5. Corduff regrouped at the interval and led by their captain Georgia Smyth they started the second half stronger. Once again Tyholland opened the scoring in what was a low scoring half. Indeed it was the trusty boot of Ellen Connolly who converted 3 frees which kept the Corduff dream alive. And despite trying to penetrate the Tyholland defence Corduff were denied more scores as Tyholland eased to victory on a final scoreline of Corduff 1-5 Tyholland 5-7. Thanks to Manager Tommy, all the parents, supporters and kit sponsor for all the support during 2019. We look forward to 2020 with renewed optimism.
