The home side started brightly and were rewarded with points from Cian Rogers and Aaron Lynch but Dublin dominated the remainder of the half and went in at the break 2-8 to 1-4 in front. Nobber's Jordan Morris got Meath's goal as the half entered injury time.

Dublin changed their entire team for the second half but it was a different Meath side that took to the pitch. The introduction of Luke Mitchell along with some fine goal keeping from Eoin Griffin swung momentum towards the green and gold. Ger Robinson's side had the game level on 22 minutes 1-12 to 2-9 with fine scores from Michael Gavin, Lynch (2), Morris (2) and Michell (3).

Daithi McGowan put Meath one up, the visitors drew level and draw appeared on the cards but substitute Dylan Keating had other ideas and found the back of the Dublin net deep in to injury time to seal an opening round win for the home side.
