Leinster Colleges SFC: Pats see off Marys

St Pats Navan got their Top Oil Leinster Post Primary Schools senior football Group F campaign of to a winning start with this eight point win over Colaiste Mhuire in ideal conditions at Pairc Tailteann.

The winners got a great start and were 2-1 to 0-0 up inside five minutes with goals from the impressive Aaron Lynch and Keith Curtis. The Mullingar school kept battling and were rewarded with a Trevor Keena goal. The visitors had the lead down to a goal by the 20th minute but Pats finished with points from Curtis and Sean Commons (2) to go in at the break 2-7 to 1-4 in front.

St. Marys started the second half brightly with points from Kevin O'Sullivan and Conan O'Hara but the winners effectively sealed the game in the following five minutes. Lynch pointed before two goals from Brian O'Hanlon and midfielder Cian McBride opened up a 4-8 to 1-6 lead. 

The teams exchanged two points each before the final whistle. Marys had a chance to narrow the gap with the final play of the game but Pats keeper Sean Brennan produced a fine save from Keena's spot kick.
