Meath CCC have confirmed that this year’s Brendan Davis Cup will not be completed as planned after Leinster Council ruled the competition should not have excluded Kiltale following an appeal to the provincial body.

When the draw was made for the competition, teams that had failed to make the knockout stages of the senior championship were included in the early rounds, with teams then becoming involved as they exited the championship. The senior winners would not participate as the CCC felt that the competition would be held up by possible Leinster club games.

A similar situation existed in the Tailteann, Corn na Boinne and Feis Cup competitions but while none of the football championship winners had an issue, senior hurling championship winners Kiltale issued an appeal.

In a statement this morning  Meath County Board confirmed that the competition would not proceed: "Meath CCC would like to confirm that, following a successful appeal to Leinster Council by Cill Teidhill C.L.G. (Kiltale GAA), this year’s Brendan Davis Cup will not be completed as planned. Meath CCC apologise to all the clubs who have taken part in the competition and to both Ath Troim C.L.G. (Trim GAA) and Cill Dealga C.L.G. (Kildalkey GAA) who had reached the final.

"Meath CCC will now concentrate on completing the remainder of its competitions whilst reviewing possible solutions to the 2018 Brendan Davis Cup competition.

"Meath CCC apologises to all the clubs who have taken part in the competition which saw 15 games played and to both Trim and Kildalkey who were due to meet in the final."
