Division 1A

Seneschalstown v Navan O’Mahonys (Saturday September 15th 18:00) – With both of these teams safely through to the Cup semi-finals, this game is all about deciding who manages to secure top spot in the group and home advantage in the upcoming semi-final. When they met in the League back in February O’Mahonys came out on top while it took extra-time in the replay of last years U-16 Summer League to separate them in 2017 when Sean Commons put on an exhibition of point scoring.  There’s very little between these two but O’Mahonys can shade it by the minimum to secure that home semi-final.

Simonstown v Trim – Two teams who will be disappointed to have fallen out of contention for the Championship before the final round of the group stages, Trim having won the Division 2 League earlier in the year and Simonstown being semi-finalists in Division 1. Trim are favourites for the Division 1 Hurling Championship and are juggling the 2 codes while Simonstown’s full focus is on the football. This is possibly going to be key here and Simonstown to come out on top and advance to the Shield with a pep in their step.

Division 1B

Donaghmore/Ashbourne v St. Ultan’s/Cortown Gaels/Round Towers – Group B of Division 1 is incredibly tight with all 4 teams tied on 2 points and just 3 points of score difference to split them. Both of these sides are coming into this encounter having lost their Round 2 games. Whichever team bounces back best from that will progress to the semi-final. With 6 members of the Meath Minor panel on display the quality levels will be high and Donaghmore/Ashbourne will be hoping home advantage proves crucial. However, the combination outfit can just about edge this encounter and make the Championship semi-finals.  

St. Colmcilles v Ratoath – The latest instalment in a riveting rivalry between these 2 sides and probably the game of the weekend in the Minor grade. The Cilles edged their League encounter by 3 points on February 10th in Gormanstown and are on a mission to make up for losing out in the League Final to Seneschalstown. Ratoath on the other hand are smarting from missing out on the knockout stages of the League. A draw will be good enough for the away side to qualify for the semis by virtue of their 1 point superior score difference. That just might be the result they get.

Division 2A

Dunderry v North Meath Gaels – There is great work being done in recent times in the juvenile ranks in Dunderry which will surely come to fruition at adult level in the coming years. While Lee Brennan and Adam Kelly are the star names on the team, the side is generally very well balanced and players all over the field chip in with big performances each time they line out. North Meath Gaels is a combination of Drumconrath, Meath Hill and Kilmainhamwood and are backboned by players such as Niall Bennett, Harry Corscadden and Brian Cassidy. A win for either side will put them into the semi-finals and it’s Dunderry who get a hesitant vote of confidence with home advantage likely to be key.

Wolfe Tones v Dunshaughlin – The Tones had a disappointing week recently at adult level, with all 3 of their Adult Football teams crashing out of their Championships at the first knockout stage. Their Minors though look like turning their season around after defeating Dunderry in Round 2 and come into this game knowing a win puts them through. Dunshaughlin know even a draw would be enough for them but if Evan Corrigan can produce a similar showing to that which he turned in last Sunday in the Gerry Reilly Tournament Final then he can help steer Wolfe Tones to the last 4 and knock the pre Championship favourites Dunshaughlin out.

Division 2B

Duleek-Bellewstown v Walterstown – Duleek-Bellewstown who plied their trade in Division 1 of the League need to secure a win here to have any chance of qualifying for the Cup semi-finals after only securing 1 point out of 4 to date. Walterstown know that a draw would suffice for them to go through but Duleek with the advantage of home comforts are given a hesitant vote to get the win which would result in anxious checking of Twitter for updates on the Skryne v Clann na nGael game.

Skryne v Clann na nGael – Skryne have been marching impressively through the Championship to date, winning both of their games in an impressive manner. With Jack Dardis, Shane Smyth and Niall Finnerty back boning their challenge, they’ve match winners in key positions. Clann na nGael will be disappointed not to have their destiny in their own hands at this stage of the competition and might have to make do with a place in the Shield with Skryne fancied to make it 3 wins from 3 outings.

Division 3A

Ballinabrackey v Bective/Dunsany – Bective/Dunsany have found the going tough in Division 3 to date and the challenge doesn’t get any easier on Sunday when they travel to take on an in-form Ballinabrackey side. On all known form to date, it’s hard to look past the Ballinabrackey team for the win.

Oldcastle v Moynalty/Carnaross – Forget the clash of Oldcastle and Ballinlough in the IFC on Saturday, for this could be the match of the weekend involving clubs from the northern end of the county. Both sides have a wealth of attacking options and have been racking up massive scores which suggests the game could provide spectators with a wonderful game. Oldcastle are safely through to the semi-finals of the Cup while Moynalty/Carnaross need to win and hope Ballinabrackey slip up if they’re to join their hosts. They can achieve 1 half of the job, but events in Ballinabrackey will dash their Cup aspirations.

Division 3B

Killary Emmets v Summerhill – Killary Emmets have found the going tough so far and the games aren’t getting any easier for them as they welcome table toppers Summerhill to Castletown on Sunday morning. A win for the ‘Hill youngsters will guarantee them a semi-final spot and they’re likely to secure it.

St Peter’s Dunboyne v St. Vincent’s/Curraha – Both of these teams are still in with a live chance of making the Cup semi-finals and come lunchtime on Sunday, St. Vincent’s/Curraha just might be that bit closer than the home side.

St. Oliver’s v Bye

Division 4A

Kilbride v Ballivor – There’s likely to be little to choose between these 2 teams and in games of that nature home advantage can be crucial. With this in mind, Kilbride to edge an entertaining encounter.  

Na Fianna v St. Michael’s/Nobber (Saturday September 15th 18:00)– Na Fianna have won both of their games to date and are playing excellent football while St. Michael’s/Nobber

This lack of match sharpness could prove costly on Saturday evening and Na Fianna with Like Kelly likely to prove too hot to handle, can continue on their winning ways.

Longwood/Clonard v St. Patrick’s (Saturday September 15th 17:00) – Game off. Points to St. Patrick’s.

St Mary’s/Slane v Jenkinstown Gaels (Saturday September 15th 17:00) – Slane is never an easy ground to come away from with a win but Jenkinstown Gaels have looked good so far in the Championship and are a well-balanced side.  They can secure a third win on Saturday.
