Kildalkey's Derek Doran celebrates

Kildalkey 4-15 Kilmessan 2-8

Kildalkey took on old rivals Kilmessan on Wednesday evening in this Division 1 Hurling League fixture at home in Kildalkey.

Conditions couldn't have been any better for this game with the sun shining and little or no wind and the pitch in great order thanks to grounds man Tony Costello .

Both sides will meet again in the first round of the championship and were short a number of regulars due to county commitments and injuries but nevertheless gave their all in a tough entertaining game .

It was Kilmessan who started the better with 2 quick goals and a point to stun the hosts but Kildalkey settled down to hit some great points from David Harmon (free), James McNally, Eoin Potterton and Derek Doran  and in the blink of an eye Doran had the net shaking twice. Ross Flynn hit 2 frees and Sean Heavey closed the scoring to leave the score at half time  Kildalkey 2-7 Kilmessan 2-2

With the backs playing well and generally on top they set up numerous attacks for the forwards and Enda Keogh (2), Eoin Potterton, Harmon again from a free and Gary Kelly all hit good points in the second half. Derek Doran was proving a handful and hit 2 more goals to finish with 4-1 to his name and after a year and a half out through injury is beginning to regain his form of a few years ago .

Kilmessan never gave up and hit 6 points in the second half while Kildalkey emptied the bench. Conor Hayes and Conor Kearney both scored points when introduced and closed the scoring and sealed the win and the 2 points for the village men.

Both sides will meet again in a few weeks time and no doubt it will be a much tighter game and one both will look forward to .
