May 23, 2018

St. Michaels Ben Farrell heads for the Curraha goal during the B FL Division 3 game at Carlanstown.

St. Michaels 4-13, Curraha 2-08

St. Michaels maintained their unbeaten run in this years reserve league after recording an impressive 11 point victory over Curraha in sunny Carlanstown last evening. A brace of goals in each half by Paddy Tobin and Ben Farrell proved decisive as the Carlanstown Kilbeg men went on to win with ease.

The winners also afforded Curraha a head start by allowing them to go 1-3 in front before Tobin opened their their account with a point after eleven minutes play. However to their credit, within two minutes of that opening score St. Michaels were on level terms after Kevin Cassidy (0-2) and Tobin combined with Paddy Callaghan for the St. Michaels opening goal. Curraha went back in front immediately before top scorer on the night Ben Farrell opened his account with a point from play to draw the teams level once more. Substitute Paddy Clarke split the posts following a great run down the middle. Ben Farrell received from the hard working Mark Stafford for his second minor before he struck low and hard for the first of his majors in the 29th minute. The industrious Callaghan was the provider for the final score of the half as he again found Farrell with room to spare for a 2-6 to 1-7 interval lead.

Curraha opened the second half with a point after just two minutes but three minutes later Kevin Cassidy, who put in a great hours shift was brought down in the square and Paddy Tobin made no mistake from the penalty spot. With St. Michaels attack enjoying a steady flow of possession they managed some fine scores with Kevin Cassidy (4), Ben Farrell (2) and Paddy Clarke all pointing before Farrell put the icing on the cake in the 62nd minute with his second major after breaking through the Curraha cover and crashing the ball to the net for a thoroughly deserved victory. Curraha managed just one more score in the final 30 minutes when they posted their second goal after 56 minutes.
The winners were well served throughout by the aforementioned scorers together with Paddy Callaghan, Daithí & Ciaran O'Reilly, Mark Stafford, Harry Dunne and Lee Morris.
