Cork youngster Liam O'Donovan is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament during a recent club challenge match.

The highly rated Clonakilty defender was forced off the pitch in the early stages of the second half against Valley Rovers on Sunday.

'Casey' has emerged as a key player for the Cork senior footballers and lined out at wing back in his debut season in 2019 as the Rebels qualified for the Super 8s.

He had recovered from a serious knee injury sustained in a league game last February to make his first championship start in the Munster semi-final meeting with Limerick four months later.

O'Donovan's season ending injury is a major setback for Clonakilty ahead of their opening clash of the SFC versus Carrigaline in two weeks' time while Cork's 2020 championship preparations have been dealt a hammer blow.
