Underdogs come up short against Mayo

October 26, 2019

The TG4 Underdogs proved no match for James Horan's Mayo at MacHale Park.

There was no fairytale ending for the Underdogs against Mayo in MacHale Park this evening.

The highlight of TG4’s popular GAA series, Underdogs, culminated in an 0-8 to 3-11 defeat for the inter-county wannabes at the hands James Horan’s side.

Under the management of Mickey Ned O’Sullivan, Valerie Mulcahy and Kevin Cassidy, the Underdogs couldn’t be blamed for a lack of effort and enthusiasm but they were stung by goals from Fionn McDonagh, Gary Boylan and Brian Reape.

The Stephen Coen captained hosts had 1-4 on the board before the Underdogs opened their account through Aaron McKenna in the 16th minute.

An improved second quarter showing resulted in further points via Brendan O’Sullivan, Alan Daly, McKenna and Patrick O Domhnaill and they trailed by 0-5 to 2-5 at the change of ends.

Reape nipped any hopes of a second-half comeback in the bud, however, when he raised Mayo’s third green flag five minutes after the restart.

Mayo’s Gary Boylan walked away with the ‘player of the match’ accolade.
