The plaudits keep coming in for retired Mayo footballer Andy Moran.

Former Galway and Mayo manager John O’Mahony coached Moran at schools level and admitted from then, he could see that the Ballaghaderreen clubman was a star in the making.

O’Mahony added that Mayo’s loss is Ballaghaderreen’s gain as Moran will be invaluable to have around the club all the time.

“I saw him play right the way up through the grades,” said O’Mahony. “The one thing that struck me about him was his positivity and resilience, and he needed all that with the setbacks he endured along the way.”

He added: “After the Dublin game this year, Ballaghaderreen had a league game a week later. Andy had a thumb injury and couldn’t play but he was there togged out on the sideline, encouraging everyone.

“He’s just a priceless asset for a club like Ballaghaderreen. But football has been his life and I can see him involved again in a big way in the future.”
