When Rosemount take on The Downs in the Westmeath SFC quarterfinal this weekend, it will bring together two managers that have a long history between them.

The Downs are managed by former Galway manager John O’Mahony, who a year before guiding the Tribesmen to All-Ireland SFC glory in 1998, managed Roscommon side St Brigid’s to a long awaited county title.

In that side was Benny O’Brien, who is the current Rosemount manager, which sets the scene for this intriguing encounter.

The Downs will be slight favourites to advance to the semi-final, but they will need a big performance from county star Luke Loughlin to ensure they do make it through.

There is a good chance that Loughlin could be marked by his county colleague Boidu Sayeh, which will also add to the occasion.
