The Irish exodus to the Australian Football League Women's (AFLW) continues with Mayo's Aileen Gilroy having signed for the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos ahead of the 2020 season.
The 27-year-old, who featured at midfield for Mayo in their narrow All-Ireland ladies football semi-final defeat to Galway last Sunday, joins Galway's Mairead Seoighe at the Melbourne club. Her Mayo team-mates Niamh and Grace Kelly, and Sarah Rowe will also ply their trade in the AFLW in the coming months.
"From the first time we were able to watch her play, Aileen’s power, speed, and ability to break the lines off half-back and through the midfield were hard to ignore," North AFLW recruiting manager Rhys Harwood said.
"Aileen has been a top-level athlete in Ireland for a significant period of time.
"Her experience and professionalism will add to our group both on and off the field, and we couldn't be more excited to have her at North Melbourne."
