Colm Cooper says he’s fearful of Cillian O’Connor and Co doing “serious damage” to Kerry if Mayo are afforded the space in Killarney this weekend.

O’Connor’s 0-6 contribution against Galway at the weekend leaves him five points away from breaking Cooper’s record as the All-Ireland SFC’s all-time top scorer, with the Kingdom ace having notched 23-283 in 85 matches.

Speaking on the RTE GAA Podcast, ‘Gooch’ said he expects the Ballintubber man to hold the record after the 70 minutes are up at Fitzgerald Stadium, where he hopes the hosts can manage to come out on the right side of the result.

"It looks money on that he’s going to do it this weekend in Killarney and he’s going to deserve it,” Cooper to stated.

"What I like about Cillian O’Connor and it gets people a bit mad is he plays on the edge. He gets stuck in a few fracases, he kicks the ball away, he’s a very streetwise, experienced player.

"He calms everyone around him, he sets the tone for this team with his tackling and they are so much a better team when he’s in it.

"My fear for Kerry is we don’t have too many man-markers, if any, and I’m wondering who is going to pick him up, who is going to pick Darren Coen up. It worries me a little bit because if these guys get space I think they could do serious damage in Killarney."
