Hunger still in Moran

Experienced Mayo forward Andy Moran has revealed that every night he goes training, his aim is to impress the management team.

One might think that at 35 years of age, one of the last things on the former Footballer of the Year’s mind would be trying to impress anyone at this stage of his career.

However, Moran is more determined than ever to force his way back into the starting line up as Mayo look to the qualifiers once again.

“My job is to put myself in the shop window so that James has a hard decision to make, either to pick me or leave me on the bench or whatever he wants to do. I’m quite happy to play the role that he wants me to play,” Moran told the Western People.

“Do I want to start? Of course. I’m not going to train five or six nights a week to not want that. For me to be as good as I need be. I need to have that type of hunger in me, but I’m happy to do the role that James asks. In the league final, that was coming off the bench and we won and I was happy with that.

“I need to stay competitive if I and the group is to be better. I think everyone needs to be pushing themselves to try and start and hopefully we all get better as a result.”
