"There's players here that I've seen that would walk on to the Mayo team"

John Maughan hopes he can tap into the ‘history of spirit, heart, determination and never-say-die attitude’ of the Offaly DNA.
The new Faithful County football boss believes that there is no shortage of talent in the county but suggests a lack of belief could be holding the team back.
With that in mind, he made sure his players watched the recent RTÉ documentary ‘Player of the Faithful’ which recalled how the county famously denied Mick O’Dwyer and Kerry the five-in-a-row back in 1982.
“I was quite keen for all of the Offaly players see it,” Maughan told RTE Sport following yesterday’s 2-14 to 3-12 O’Byrne Cup loss to Carlow in Netwatch Cullen Park.
“There's something that's in a culture and the DNA of particular jurisdictions and in Offaly they have a great history of spirit, heart, determination and a never-say-die attitude.
“That's always there. I don't think I'll ever challenge an Offaly footballer in that regard. It's just a question of getting some belief into those players.
“There's players here that I've seen that would walk on to the Mayo team for argument's sake. All they need is a little bit of confidence and belief, get a few victories and you'd hope things would turn.”
