ST MARYS 2-19

GERALDINES 1-15

St Marys set up a meeting with Nh Mairtin in the Cardinal O’Donnell Cup Final after recording an impressive seven-point victory over the Geraldines in Ardee on Saturday evening.

When the sides met a fortnight ago in the Senior Championship quarter-final it was the Gers who came out on top but the Marys gained some measure of revenge with a deserved victory thanks to a good all-round team effort.

The Marys set their stall out from the opening whistle and with less than five minutes on the clock Tom Jackson had the ball in the net.

Boosted by that score, the Marys continued to press forward and with Kian Moran, Liam Jackson, Ciaran Keenan and Niall Eccles among their scores, they went in at the break with a 1-10 to 0-6 advantage.

The Haggardstown side were not at their best but scores from Jim McEneaney, Shane O’Hanlon and Dara Hamill kept them in touch.

The home side were in no mood to allow their advantage to slip and a second goal from Mark Fay midway through the second half put the result beyond doubt. Although Matt Corcoran did reply with a goal for the Gers soon after it was a comfortable win for the Marys.

NH MAIRTIN 2-10

DREADNOTS 1-10

Nh Mairtin made it through to the Cardinal O’Donnell Cup decider when two late goals from Conor Whelan and Sam Mulroy helped them defeat Dreadnots by three points at Monasterboice.

The Dreadnots looked to be on course for victory after they had built up a six point lead in the first half and were still three to the good with ten minutes to play.

However, they were unable to withstand the late rally from a Mairtins side who remain on course for the double.

The Clogher men were took the initiative from the opening exchanges and Anthony Williams opened proceedings with a goal. With James Califf and Jay Hughes on target, the Dreadnots were 1-3 to no score ahead before Sam Mulroy got the first point for the Mairtins. At half time the lead was 1-6 to 0-4.

Mulroy led the fightback for the hosts and it was a goal from sub Conor Whelan that levelled the game with ten minutes to play. Mulroy then struck a second goal on 55 minutes to seal the win.
