Div 3A/3B play-off round-up

Oliver Plunketts retained their Division 2 status when they defeated Lannleire in the play-off, while Nh Malachi held off John Mitchels to secure Division 3A football for another year.

Oliver Plunketts had to hold off a late rally from Lannleire before they could celebrate securing another season of Division 2 football.

The play-off final in Dunleer on Saturday night saw the Drogheda men get off to a great start with early goals from Niall Murtagh and Conor Early.

However, Lannleire fought back well and Killian Gregory’s late goal saw the teams go in at the break level at 1-5 to 2-2.

The Plunketts picked up the pace in the third quarter and looked comfortable when they moved six clear with eight minutes to play. However, Lannleire hit back with five points put they left disappointed as the final whistle put an end to their hopes.

Nh Malachi guaranteed another season of Division 3A football thanks to a four-point win over John Mitchels in Ballybailie on Saturday evening.

There wasn’t a lot to choose between the teams on the night but in the end the scoring power of Colin Rooney made the difference.

At half time the teams were level at five points apiece but the Mals had more success in front of the posts to as they edged home. Rooney finished top scorer with six points while Padraig Moley, Jack Kirwan and Jamie Kelly were also on target.

Robbie Coyle kicked three points for the Mitchels while there were also scores from John Gallagher, Mikey Nulty, Kevin Gallagher and Trevor Matthews.
