April 22, 2019

Division 3A

Roche Emmets continued their pursuit of Division 3A honours when they had a comfortable 4-12 to 0-10 victory at home to Stabannon Parnells on Good Friday.

Barry O’Hare was in fine scoring form for the winners as he bagged a personal tally of 3-4 over the course of the hour. Two of those goals came in the opening period which ended with the Roche men leading by 2-7 to 0-5.

Aonghus Giggins did his best to keep Stabannon in touch as he finished with eight points but further goals from O’Hare and Niall McArdle sealed the win for Roche.

Glen Emmets remain in contention at the top of the table after they recovered from a slow start to defeat Nh Malachi at Tullyallen.

Ronan McElroy got his side off to a bright start with a goal on five minutes, but the Emmets responded well and at the break were leading by 0-7 to 1-2 with Kealan O’Neill, Jamie Gilkes and Andrew Mooney contributing points.

The Mals tried hard to get back into the game with Colin Rooney adding three points but the Emmets always had the edge and made their superiority count with points from Keith Lynch, Tom Grimes and O’Neill.

Lannleire picked up their second win on the road in Division 3 A with a comfortable victory over Na Piarsaigh on Friday night.  Two first half goals from Colin Murphy helped the away side lead 2-8 0-6 at the interval.

Alan Murphy added a third goal for Lannleire inside the opening quarter of the second period and although the home side scored two goals in the final ten minutes of the game, Lannleire had by that stage put the result beyond doubt.

Division 3B

Westerns remain two points clear at the top of Division 3B thanks to a comfortable 2-17 to 0- 6 victory away to Dowdallshill on Saturday evening.

The visitors, with Countyman Tommy Durnin displaying his usual leadership qualities, gained control of the game from an early stage, and it was Durnin who raised the first green flag of the night, dispatching a penalty at the end of the first quarter.

By half time, the Westerns has stretched their lead even further, going in with a 2-8 to 0-4 advantage as Conor Kerr added a second goal.

Dowdallshill could muster just two points in the second half, and the heavy defeat leaves them with just three points from their opening four fixtures.

Sean McDermotts remain two points off the pace after scoring a 3-17 to 4-10 win over John
Mitchels in Mountrush.

The first half proved to be a close affair with Lorcan Myles firing in a superb goal as his side took a 1-9 to 1-6 lead at the end of the first 30 minutes. Shawni Dowdall found the net for the Mitchels to keep them in contention.

The second half provided plenty of entertainment as the McDermotts extended their advantage with a Peter Osbourne goal. However, the Mitchels hit back with three goals in ten minutes from John Gallagher (2) and Trevor Matthews. With the game very much in the balance in the closing stages, it was the Mountrush men who made the decisive move when Mark Duffy found the net to seal victory.

In the remaining game in Division 3B Wolfe Tones defeated Annaghminnon Rovers by 3-23 to 2-11 in Drogheda.
