Leinster Club JFC quarter-final: Young Irelands advance after impressive display

November 12, 2018

Celebration time for Dundalk Young Irelands.

YOUNG IRELANDS 2-14

ANNANOUGH 0-5

Young Irelands advanced to the semi-final of the Leinster Junior Championship thanks to a comprehensive victory over Laois champions, Annanagh, at St Brigid’s Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Dundalk side turned in one of their best displays of an impressive season to brush aside the challenge as goals from Dermot Mone and Cian O’Donoghue either side of the interval proved decisive.

The Louth champions were quick out of the blocks and set the tone of the game when captain Cian O Naraigh opened their account and they were firmly in charge when Mone scored the first goal after ten minutes.

Adrian O’Donoghue’s side continued to press forward and by the time the half time whistle sounded they were leading by 1-8 to 0-2. Dean Maguire, Johnny Lynch and Jordan O’Donoghue were also among the points for the hosts in that spell.

The visitors did raise their game in the second half but they were never in a position to threaten the lead and Young Irelands remained in command. The victory was sealed when Cian O’Donoghue added a second goal in the final quarter while Aidan Sheekey and Peter Nixon also contributed points.
