May 21, 2018

NIall Conlon - O'Connells

Second half goals from Ruairi Moore and Barry Flanagan helped O Raghallaighs move clear at the top of the Division 2 table with a 2-18 to 2-15 win away to Roche Emmets.

The home side looked to be on course for a shock victory when goals from Barry O'Hare and David O'Connell saw them take a 2-8 to 0-9 lead into the second half.

However, the O Raghallaighs responded well to the challenge and edged home by just three points thanks to goals from Flanagan and Moore.

Kilkerley Emmets moved into second place in the table after a 3-12 to 2-12 victory away to Hunterstown Rovers.

The visitors caused most of the damage in the first half when goals from Shane Lennon and Dan McKeown established a 2-9 to 0-6 lead with Alan Landy, Ryan Burns and Conor Matthews on target for Rovers.

Lennon stretched the lead with a third goal before Hunterstown rallied as Paul Carrie and Brendan Lennon found the net. However, it was too late to prevent the hosts suffering a first defeat of the season.

O'Connells find themselves in fourth place in the league after recording back-to-back wins for the first time this season by defeating Glen Emmets on a 3-15 to 0-11 scoreline.

The home side raced into a four-point lead with scores from Robert Quigley, Dean Stanfield, Emmet Byrne and Sean Cairns before Conor Grimes got the visitors' first point of the game.

Two goals from Niall Conlon helped his side take a commanding lead 2-9 to 0-3 at the break, before a third goal from Robert Quigley sealed victory for the Bellingham side.

St Fechins moved on to eight points when they defeated Oliver Plunketts by 1-14 to 0-14 in Drogheda on Sunday.

The Plunketts were leading by 0-9 to 0-5 at half time but a goal from a Ronan Holcroft penalty proved decisive as the Fechins turned things around in the second half.

Trevor Walsh and Cian Brady top scored for the Plunketts with four points while Luke Haggins weighed in with three.

St Mochtas recorded their third win of the campaign by defeating Nh Fionnbarra by 1-14 to 1-7 at Louth Village.

Jamie Farrell scored the only goal of the first half to send his team in leading by 1-9 to 0-3 at the interval.

Points from Eamonn O'Neill and Gerry Garland helped complete the victory for the Mochtas despite the fact that the Finbarrs claimed a consolation goal through Padraig Butterly.

Glyde Rangers secured a vital win in their bid to avoid relegation when they defeated fellow strugglers, St Josephs by 1-8 to 0-8.

In a very even contest the crucial score of the game arrived in the first half when Trevor O'Brien's goal saw his side lead by 1-4 to 0-1 at the interval. Conall Smyth scored the Joes' only point.

The Tallanstown side managed to maintain that advantage in the second half despite late scores from Alan McKenna but it took a fine save from David Brennan in the closing moments to keep his side in front.
