Dromard club notes

October 01, 2019

Special Monthly Members Draw: Congratulations to the winners of our Special Members Draw for September. The €500 prize went to Tommy O’Neill, Legga with €100 each won by Benny and Theresa Reilly, Kiltycon; Cillian Hourican, Crott; and Paul and Lorna Hourican, Crott. Thank you to all our members for your continued support.

Intermediate Champions: Congratulations to our neighbours Fr Manning Gaels on their victory in the County Final on Sunday. Well done to the players and management and to all involved in the club.

County Final: Best of luck to Killoe and Longford Slashers in this weekend’s County Final. The TP Pettit Memorial Trophy will be presented to the county final referee, who this year is Patrick Maguire.

U20 Football Championship: Hard luck to our U20 footballers who went down to Carrickedmond on Saturday evening in the championship in Páirc na nGael. Despite facing a strong Carrickedmond team, a very young Dromard side showed great battling qualities and a never-say-die attitude in taking the game to their opponents. After struggling to make an impact on the scoreboard in the first half, Dromard played some excellent football in the second half, with Aaron Farrell finding the net twice after some great build up play. Well done to the players and their manager James Martin on a gallant performance. Team versus Carrickedmond: Ollie Duffy, Martin McStay, Ciaran Murphy, Conor McGauran, Dylan McCormack, Jason Grimes, Darragh O’Toole, Luke McEntire, Ronan Bleakley, Fionn Hourican, Joseph Hagan, Aaron Farrell, Joshua Gray

Longford GAA Gaelic Football Award 1 Coaching Course: This is a hugely important course due to the fact that that all adult club teams must have an Award 1 coach involved since the start of 2016 and by the start of 2018 all adult Club Head Coaches/Managers must be Award 1 qualified. Award 1 Youth/Adult (November): This course is aimed at coaches of teams from Adult to U13 and coaches wishing to attend must hold the Foundation Award for at least the last playing season (spring 2019). This course will be ran over 3 Saturdays (10 – 3:30) and 2 Thursday nights (7 - 9:30) in November and all sessions must be attended in order to complete the course and receive your Award. Lunch will be provided on the Saturdays. Places are available on a first come first served bases (provided the above Foundation requirement is met) and limited to 24 in total. Please let Tommy O’Neill or John Duffy know if you are available.

National Student Bursary: The GAA has announced details of the 2019/2020 GAA National Student Bursary.
