Noel O'Brien has had huge success as a club manager

Longford Slashers manager Noel O'Brien was wholesome in his praise for his players following their county semi-final victory over Abbeylara last weekend.

The Slashers are back in a county final for the first time since 2013, having failed to make it past the group stages in the previous couple of campaigns.

O'Brien brought a wealth of experience to the role having had club success with the likes of his native St Brigid's in Roscommon amongst others.

However, he told the Longford Leader that this win was down to the players and their attitude.

"They are all fine footballers," said O'Brien. "Intelligent as well. We don't have the physical strength but what we do have is guys who have a lot of football ability, pace and speed and never give up.

"They have great work rate and honesty. When you get honesty off the field you'll  get honesty on it. That's exactly what those boys have been doing all year."

Longford Slashers will play Killoe Young Emmets in the county final on Sunday October 5th.
