Longford minor footballers begin their Leinster championship campaign with a home game against neighbours Westmeath next week.

Glennon Brothers Pearse Park will host the clash between the sides on Tuesday night next (April 23rd).

Joint managers Dan McElligott and Barry O’Rourke have worked with this side since their under-16 days and feel that the squad is a strong possession to progress to the knockout stages of the campaign.

Following the Westmeath game, they face Carlow away on Wednesday, May 8th and Laois at home on Saturday, May 18th.

The top two teams will advance to the knockout phase, so an opening day win would put Longford in a good position.

However, they have to plan without the injured Darren Moffett and Darragh O’Connell, both of who were part of the Longford minor side that defeated Dublin in the Leinster MFC shield final last year.
