Dromard club notes

April 08, 2019

Division 1: Dromard 3-15 Longford Slashers 1-3.  Well done to our senior footballers who made it two wins from two in the league with a good victory over Longford Slashers in Pairc na nGael on Sunday. Dromard played some good attacking football in the opening half to lead by 8 points to 1-2 at the break. The Dromard scores came from Francis McGee (0-5 - 2 frees, 1 45, 2 play) Joseph Hagan (1 free), Cian Minmnagh and Ronan McEntire (1 point each from play). In the second half Dromard continued to win plenty of possession and added to their scoring tally with points from Francis McGee (0-3), Joseph Hagan (0-2), an excellent point on the run from Conor McGahern and points from play from Cian Mimnagh and Diarmuid Masterson. Dromard’s three second half goals were scored by James Mimnagh (after good build-up play involving Karl McNerney), Cian Mimnagh and Francis McGee. Dromard lined out as follows: Gavin McNerney; David Petit, Niall Vance, James Mimnagh; John Sheridan, Peter Reynolds, Conor McGahern; Ronan McEntire, Bryan McCormack; Diarmuid Masterson, Francis McGee, Bernard Sheridan; Karl McNerney, Joseph Hagan, Cian Mimnagh. Subs: Michael Reilly, Dylan McCormack, Peter Mimnagh, Jason Murtagh, Oisin Hourican.

Division 3: Fr Manning Gaels 0-8 Dromard 0-5. Hard luck to our second team who suffered a narrow defeat to Fr Manning Gaels in Monaduff on Friday evening. In a very closely contested encounter, the sides were level at half time, 3 points apiece. The Dromard points were scored by Dylan McCormack, Conor McGahern (a superb long-range effort from a free close to the sideline) and Jason Murtagh. Dromard continued to work hard and create chances in the second half but Fr Manning Gaels made slightly better use of their possession and added the key scores to secure the win. A speedy recovery to Kevin Kane who picked up a finger injury during the game. Well done to all the players who togged out and put in a very good performance in the first game of the year. Thanks to the management team of Jimmy Kiernan, Noel Reynolds, John O’Toole and Gerry Sheridan for all of their work in assembling the squad. We encourage all eligible players to continue to tog out for this team as we aim to build on the very positive start on Friday night. Team: Sean McNerney; Padraig McNerney, Gareth O’Hara, Kevin Kane; Michael Reynolds, Michael Reilly, Oisin Hourican; Daragh O’Toole, Dylan McCormack; Peadar Kiernan, Conor McGahern, Jason Murtagh; Karl McNerney, Peter Mimnagh, Martin McStay. Dromard Ladies Club Notes

County Matters: The sun certainly shone on our County Seniors at the weekend. Not only did they do their own job by beating Wicklow 1-20 to 1-7, but Sligo came up trumps by beating Kildare 3-12 to 1-12. This means a 4th place finish and a semi-final spot over the Easter weekend. Brilliant effort. Congratulations to players and management. With the u/14s due to play their Leinster Final on Friday, and the u/16s and Minors in action as well, things are looking up for Longford Ladies football.

Results and Fixtures: Our U/16s got their Championship of to a great start on Weds last with a solid victory by 10 pts over Grattans. Next Weds fixture v Ballymahon/Forgney has been rearranged for the following week to accommodate our County matches. Our Senior Panel was out in the Gold Cup and are now showing great improvement from match to match, although losing to B/F/K by 3 points. Keep up the good work girls.

Training: Saturday morning training got under way last week and continues every Sat morning at 10am for all girls aged 6yrs to 16 yrs. All new girls are welcome, just turn up and we will look after you. It would also be nice to see girls who for whatever reason have stopped coming, but feel they might want to return.

Registration:For all parents information. All girls who were registered last year to play Ladies football remain members until May 31st. There will be registration in the next few weeks, to enable present members and all new girls to sign up. Every girl wishing to play Ladies football in 2019 must register with LGFA. Girls who are playing mixed u/12s who are signed to the Boys Minor club, must register with the ladies club to play ladies football. Hope this clears up any misunderstanding.

Birthdays: Just one this week, and its Happy Birthday to Aisling Farrell who will be 15 on Monday. Have a lovely day Aisling.
