Dromard club notes

September 10, 2018

Sympathy: Dromard GAA extends its sympathy to the Sorohan, Kelleher and Healy families on the death of Kathleen Sorohan (née Kelleher), Fardromin, Ballinamuch and formerly of Cammagh, Moyne whose funeral took place last week. The Club offers its condolences to Kathleen McHugh and the Connolly family on the recent passing of Kathleen’s sister Betty Connolly (née O’Reilly), Limerick. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha.

Senior Championship: Dromard 2-7 Clonguish 0-13. A last-minute point from Francis McGee earned our senior team a draw against Clonguish in the championship quarter final played at Pearse Park on Sunday evening. A Cian Mimnagh goal mid-way through the first half gave Dromard a three-point lead but Clonguish closed the gap to leave Dromard ahead by just one point at the break, 1-4 to 6 points. It was a similar story in the second half with a second Cian Mimnagh goal after 10 minutes giving Dromard the advantage, only for Clonguish to draw level and then take the lead with a Paul Barden point. In the last attack of the game, Francis McGee managed to steer the ball over the bar from a tight angle to rescue a draw for Dromard. Team: Sean McNerney; Paul McGee, Diarmuid Masterson, Pauric Martin; Peter Reynolds, John Sheridan, Niall Vance; Bernard Sheridan, Ronan McEntire; Joseph Hagan, Peter Masterson, Dylan McCormack; James Martin, Francis McGee, Cian Mimnagh. Subs: Kevin Kane, James Mimnagh, Ross McNerney, Bryan McCormack.

Quarter-Final Replay: The replay against Clonguish takes place on Sunday next (16 September) at 2pm in Pearse Park. We ask all our supporters to turn out once again and get behind the team. Best of luck to all the players and management.

New York Senior Championship: Congratulations to Dromard’s Gary Maguire who was part of the successful New York Longford team which won the Senior Championship Final on Sunday in Gaelic Park. Gary lined out at corner forward and scored a point from a free in the first half as Longford defeated Monaghan by a single score at the finish, 12 points to 11. Congratulations to Gary on this brilliant achievement. We hope to see him wearing the blue and gold closer to home in the not too distant future.

Get Well Wishes: The Club would like to wish a speedy recovery to Rian Sheridan, son of Ann and Damien Sheridan, who was recently hospitalised in Dublin. Best wishes to Rian from everyone in Dromard GAA.

Fitness Classes: Classes resume in the Clubhouse this week with Yoga on Monday nights at 8pm. Details on the resumption of other classes will be confirmed in the coming days.

Dromard Ladies Club Notes

Minor Training: This continues every Tuesday at 7pm in preparation for the Championship which starts September 23rd with a home match versus Ballymore. Well done everybody who has answered the call, especially the u16 and u14 girls to ensure that your Minor teammates can field a competitive panel. We are all wishing you good luck.

Vincent Mulligan Cup: Held by Mullinalaghta by invitation on an annual basis, we were glad to accept the chance to compete for this. Although we struggled a bit to field a full u14 side, once again younger players answered the call including 4 10yr olds and we were able to put it up to Mullinalaghta in a super match. With both defences performing heroics, points were at a premium, and the only goal of the half gave Dromard a 3 point lead at halftime. Second period saw the home side gradually chip into our lead and they eventually held a 1pt lead going into the last 2 minutes before a breakaway goal ensured that the cup stayed in Mullinalaghta where we all agreed it should be. Thanks for the invite and we hope we gave you a game to enjoy. We thoroughly enjoyed it, and to receive losers medals at the end was pure class by our hosts.

County Development Squads: These will start on Sat 15th September 10am until 11.30am (Venue to be decided) and is open to all u12, u13,and u15 girls whatever their ability. Run by qualified coaches, all our girls that took part last year came back to our club better players. Please encourage your girls to attend. It runs for 8 consecutive Saturdays at a weekly cost of 2 Euro, and that provides every girl that participates with a top on Nov 3rd.

U10 Blitz: This has been postponed from Sat 15th until Sat 23rd in Monaduff at 11am. Because of this training will continue this Sat in Dromard, usual time. where it is hoped to present the tops to all our underage panels who have been very good not only at turning up regularly every Saturday morning, but also togging out all year in both Championship and Summer Leagues.

Church Gate Collection: This will be held outside Moyne and Legga churches on this weekend 15/16 Sept. All proceeds go to Dromard Ladies Gaa for ongoing development of all sections of the club. We acknowlege the contribution our parishioners make annually at this time, and thank you all for your continued support. With 18 new members joining since the start of this season our club is continually growing and with your financial support we look forward to enrolling more young faces next year.

Clothes Collection: The lorry will be picking up bags from the Clubhouse and Moyne Stores on the morning of 20th September, so we ask that you drop any old clothes, bedding, footwear etc. by Wednesday 19th.We ask you not to leave bags into Clubhouse until Monday 17th as the Winter Keep Fit programme is up and running and space is at a premium. Once again we thank you for your support and hope this is a service we can provide for you to clear out your presses as well as giving us the chance to add to club funds.

All Ireland Ladies Day: This Sunday 16th September in Croke Park. Unfortunately this year we have been unable to source any complimentary tickets from neighbouring clubs, so there are only a few available (contact Imelda). Because of this, for the first time in a good few years we are unable to run a coach. However it is a fabulous day out and if anybody wants a good day out tickets are available from all the normal Gaa outlets and from the ticket office on the day.

Birthdays: Happy Birthday to Lauren Maguire who will be 10yrs old on Wednesday. We hope you have enjoyed your first season with Dromard Ladies and have made lots of new friends. Enjoy your day.
