Former star forward Padraic Davis has emerged as a leading contender for the Longford senior football manager vacancy.

The Fr Manning Gaels clubman was one of the Midlanders' stand-out performers from 1995 to 2007 and has managed the county's U-21 and junior teams in the past.

He was also a selector with the senior side for three years during Glenn Ryan's tenure and, more recently, he guided Mohill to two Leitrim SFC titles in three years.

It understood that his former team-mates Paul Barden and Donal Ledwith have agreed to be part of his backroom team if he gets the green light to replace Denis Connerton from the County Board.
