Here are the players that stood out for us on the hurling fields over the weekend...
1. Eoghan Cahill (Offaly)
Offaly's margin of defeat to the All-Ireland champions would have been far greater were it not for some top class saves by the Faithful County netminder.
2. Sean Weir (Kerry)
Weir and his Kingdom team-mates bounced back from their opening round loss to Carlow to get the better of Laois in the Joe McDonagh Cup.
3. John Dillon (Antrim)
Dillon and the Saffrons made it two wins from as many outings when finishing with three points to spare over 12-man Carlow.
4. Ben Conneely (Offaly)
The St Rynagh's clubman can't be faulted for effort in the Faithful County's opening round loss to the All-Ireland champions.
5. Chris Crummey (Dublin)
The team in sky blue emptied the tank in Parnell Park but they were denied at the death by a battle hardened Kilkenny side.
6. Cillian Buckley (Kilkenny)
The Cats' captain had to delve deep into his reservoir of experience to help edge them over the line.
7. Padraic Mannion (Galway)
The Tribesmen got the defence of their Leinster SHC title off to a winning start with a 12-point success over Offaly.
8. Aonghus Clarke (Westmeath)
With seven points to his name, Clarke was the standout performer as the Lake County dished out a heavy Joe McDonagh Cup defeat to neighbours Meath.
9. James Maher (Kilkenny)
The influential midfielder fired over two crucial points as the Cats came from behind to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
10. Conal Keaney (Dublin)
It's very much a case of what might have been for Dublin who lost the services of the influential Keaney to a collar bone injury in the 60th minute.
11. TJ Reid (Kilkenny)
The Ballyhale Shamrocks star continued where he left off in the league with an exhibition of dead ball striking.
12. Joseph Cooney (Galway)
The Sarsfields player helped himself to 1-4 in the 5-18 to 2-15 success over the Faithful County.
13. Conor Whelan (Galway)
Whelan and the Tribesmen ended their goal drought in fine style against Offaly.
14. Liam Rushe (Dublin)
Put his body on the line for the Dublin cause and posed plenty of problems for the Kilkenny defence.
15. Brian Concannon (Galway)
The Killimordaly clubman enjoyed a championship debut to remember when scoring 2-1 in O'Connor Park on Saturday evening.
