U14 Camogie County Final

Cappamore 4-5 vs 3-6 Patrickswell 

This final lived up to the billing. Having met Patrickswell a few weeks earlier in the championship we knew what to expect. On that occasion we won a hard fought battle by two points. This final proved to be every bit as tough and physical from first whistle to last. Both teams had periods of dominance during the game. The fitness level was impressive as the game was played at a ferocious pace. Scores were hard got throughout. We took the lead and never went behind in the entire game. However there was never much daylight between us and the first half finished level 2-2 apiece. 

The second half saw us start a little slower and allowed our opponents to pressure us but our goalie and defense stood firm and we worked our way up the the field getting vital scores and putting us back in the driving seat. Patrickswell stayed competitive thoughout and the pendulum swung from end to end but we continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over. The last five minutes seemed like an eternity but when the whistle finally blew the scenes of joy from players, coaches, parents, grandparents and supporters will live long in the memory of all in attendance. Final score 4-5 to 3-6 for a two point win. It's impossible to single out players for mention as this was truly a massive team performance from all. Impressive saves, resolute defence, a great midfield battle, excellent forwards and some well worked and well taken scores. The large attendance at the final was impressive and very much appreciated by the team and management

Minor Hurling Championship 

Cappamore 3-9 vs 2-11

Monday 9 September 2019

Cappamore minor hurlers secured there first win of the season with a hard fought one point win over Monaleen in Cappamore last Monday evening. Monaleen were first off the mark and went 1-1 ahead before Darragh Hanley scored a goal in response for Cappamore. Frees from Liam O'Donnell added to the score line with Monaleen having the better of the exchanges in the early stages of the match. Some very good defending from the Cappamore backs kept the score line down while PJ Hogan raised a second green flag for the Cappamore men as the half drew to a close. This left the half time score 2-5 to 1-5 in favour of Cappamore. 

Cappamore started well in the second half and registered 1-3 in the early stages with Liam O'Donnell on the score sheet and Darragh Hanley with his second goal of the evening. As the half drew on monaleen came more into the game and scored a goal to leave two points between the teams. 

Points were exchanged either end in the closing minutes of the game and Cappamore held out for a one point win. 

Well done to the Cappamore lads on a good win for a very young team in what was a great squad effort.

U13 Hurling Championship

Caherline 4-7 vs Cappamore 4-8

We started our U13 championship last Monday night with a 1 point win over Caherline. Both sides traded points early on. Our first goal came after Evan Coleman cut through the center of the defense before batting past the out coming keeper. Caherline replied with a goal of their own before we added 2 more points from frees. Jake Slattery denied Caherline another goal with a fine save and when our defense moved the ball out the field it fell to Alex Heaney on the edge of the square who scored our second goal. Caherline hit back with another goal and a few pointed frees. Evan Coleman scored a goal just before half time to leave Cappamore ahead by 2 points. 

Both teams exchanged points at the start of the second half. Tommy Dillon, introduced at half time linked up well with the hardworking Eamonn Ryan. Caherline found the net again and added another point. Evan Coleman replied with a 65. Michael Berkery was dominating the defense clearing ball after ball up to our forwards and it was Dillon again who got past his man to set up Heaney for his second goal. Caherline closed the gap back down to one point and went chasing a goal but couldn’t break down a stubborn defense lead by Berkery. Great performance by all the panel on the night. Well done to both teams on a fine sporting game. Next up for us is a home game with Patrickswell.

Intermediate Camogie

Cappamore 0-5 vs 2-12 Crecora 

This was the last game of the qualifying rounds and having already qualified earlier in the competition the girls had one eye on next weeks semi final. 

Crecora got off to a flying start with a goal very early and we found ourselves struggling for possession and scores. It didn't get much better in second half and Crecora pulled away for a deserved win. 

Looking forward to an improved performance in the semi finals. 

 

U16 Hurling Division 1 Shield Semi Final

Cappamore 0-14 vs 1-16 Newcastlewest

Our Hurling season came to a close with a dissapointing loss to Newcastlewest. In a great hurling first half which had 19 scores, Cappamore had some fine points from play from Whelan, Hogan, Kennedy, O'Donnell and Duggan to leave the score Cappamore 0-10 vs 0-9 Newcastlewest.

A determined Newcastle proved better in the second half with the all important goal coming on 45min. Cappamore tried hard but couldn't get back level. A PJ Hogan shot produced a fine save from their goalkeeper and what looked like a penalty wasn't entertained by the referee.

U13 hurling championship 

Cappamore 2-8 vs 2-3 Patrickswell

Sunday 15 September

We got our second win of the U13 championship against Patrickswell on Sunday evening. Another good performance from all the panel. Cathal Mulcahy put in a good performance at full back, Ben Ryan at half back and our two midfielders Cillian O'Dwyer and Colum Hanley worked hard throughout the game. Shane O'Connor and Jake Slattery caused problems for Patrickswell in our half forward line.

Next up is Killacolla Gaels in Bruree Wednesday evening at 6:45pm

U12 Hurling

Cappamore 2-07 vs 1-05 South Liberties

Thursday 12 September. 

On Thursday last our U12 hurlers had a good win in a tight game against South Liberties.

Two evenly matched teams played out a thoroughly enjoyable game to watch. After what was an even first half both teams were level with Cappamore on 0-04 and South Liberties on 1-01. Jake Slattery providing the scores for Cappamore 2 from play and 2 frees.

It was point for point during the earlier stages in the second half but eventually we began to apply more pressure on the south liberties defense. Our hard work paid off when Cillian O'Dwyer played a good ball forward and Alex Heney pounced on the ball and dispatched it to the net. Soon after that we added a second goal when Tommy Harnett reacted quickest when a Jake Slattery free landed in the square, Tommy pulled first time  and sent the ball past the keeper.

Liberties continued to work hard but our defense held firm and we ran out 5 point winners.

Overall a good team performance and we had 5 different players on the scoresheet.
