County Football League Division 1
Fr. Caseys 2-13 Drom/Broadford 3-11

Fr. Caseys Senior footballers concluded their league campaign last Tuesday when they took on Drom/Broadford in Abbeyfeale. Fr. Caseys made a perfect start when Jamie O’Connor struck for goal inside the opening two minutes after great setup play from Pa O’Connor. Jamie soon followed up with a pointed free before Drom/Broadford exploited a gap in the Fr. Caseys defence to also rattle the net. Points from play from Jamie O’Connor and Rory O’Brien kept the home side in front before Jamie O’Connor scored a fortunate second goal with the opposing keeper failing to deal with a high ball. After an explosive start Fr. Caseys then entered a barren period, failing to score for the next 10 minutes while their opponents added 1-02 to the scoreboard reducing the margin to a single point. The teams traded scores in the closing 5 minutes of the half, Jamie O’Connor once more on target for Fr. Caseys and also Dylan Quirke marking his senior debut with a well taken score. The half time score was Fr. Caseys 2-05, Drom/Broadford 2-04

Having looked the better team for the opening period, Fr. Caseys were failing to show that dominance on the scoreboard. The opening two scores of the second half came from the boot of Jamie O’Connor and fist of David Ward and the margin was now 3 points. Drom/Broadfords first score of the half was soon cancelled out by Jamie O’Connors fifth point of the night. Ten minutes into the half Drom/Broadford struck their third goal and any plans for a march to victory were cancelled. Over the next 15 minutes the sides traded scores with Dylan, Cathal, Jamie and Rory all on target for Fr. Caseys. With the game tied and 5 minutes on the watch we were in for a grand stand finish. Drom/Broadford showed their experience to keep the ball and eventually found the gaps to slot over two points as the game entered injury time. Jamie O’Connor hadn’t finished his scoring and with another point brought his tally to 2-07 for the night. It wasn’t to be enough however as Drom/Broadford held on for a single point victory. Having looked the better team for large spells unfortunately the scoreboard told a different story. On the night young Dylan Quirke gave a very impressive display for his debut and Jamie O’Connor accuracy in front of goal could not be faulted. Next up is Ballylanders at the end of July in round 3 of the county championship. The full time score was Fr. Caseys 2-13, Drom/Broadford 3-11
