Cappamore vs Ahane

The girls played absolutely brilliant in what was a very hot evening. In a very tight first half both teams had multiple scoring opportunities with Cappamore coming out on top with a goal through brilliant work from the back line all the way up the field. As it was such a hot evening there were some water breaks which resulted in 4 quarters in the match. Ahane came back in the second quarter with a very well struck goal but Cappamore defended well to keep other opportunities at bay. Cappamore then scored another goal in the third quarter which left the score 2 goals to 1 in favour of Cappamore going into the last quarter.

In the last quarter ahane got off to the perfect start scoring a goal and a point in quick succession which for the first time meant they led the match. Cappamore didn’t let this phase them and dominated for the remainder of the game, with one more goal coming with two minutes to go.

Overall it was a brilliant team performance from Cappamore with Isabella playing great in goals, Kaelin Ryan, Roisin Fitzgibbon,  Laura Diggins, and Catríona Dillon being solid in defence. Molly Ryan, Aoibhe Ryan and Laura Howl working tirelessly and running loads in midfield and finally Nicole O’Connor, Grace Kennedy, Sarah O’Malley and Chelsea McKenna did brilliant work in the forwards to make sure that the ball stayed up and kept ahane under pressure.

Well done girls great end to the summer season.

U12 Hurling

Thu 4 July

Bruff  3-02 vs 0-5 Cappamore

In the last of the round robin games in the U12 hurling competition we traveled to Bruff last Thursday evening. Bruff were first off the mark with a point from play. We soon got into the match and were winning good ball in the middle third of the field. Alex Heney pointed a 65 for our first score to level it at a point a piece. We then drove on from there and 2 more points from play from Alex and one from a free had us 0-04 to 0-1 up. Bruff replied with a score of their own and then just before half time we converted another free to leave it at 0-05 to 0-02 at half time.

The half time team talk obviously worked for the bruff boys as they came out all fired up for the second half. In a lively second half in which the tackles were flying in we battled hard. But playing against the breeze and with Bruff upping the intensity we were under more pressure. Jake Slattery was playing well in goals and the defense was coping well, but a lucky goal for Bruff brought them back into the game. Bruff added two more goals as they ran at our defense, and we failed to register a score ourselves in the second half. It wasn't all one way traffic though we were unlucky with a few chances and one shot came back off the crossbar. We played some good hurling and fought to the end, but the lads would have learned a lot from playing in a tough match like this. We now look forward to our play-off game followed by a semi-final and final later in the summer.

Squad: Jake Slattery, Cian O'Connor, James Ryan, Cathal Mulcahy, Cillian O'Dwyer, Jacob Wright, Ben Ryan, Tommy Dillon, Chris Smith, Alex Heney, Tommy Hartnett, David Meehan, Darragh O'Shaughnessy, Shane O'Neill, Cathal Mulligan.
