Limerick GAA has extended its sympathy to county board chairman John Cregan on the death of his daughter, Mary.

A staff nurse at University Hospital Limerick, Mary died peacefully at her home on Thursday after a long illness and surrounded by her family and friends. She is survived by her heartbroken parents John and Patricia, brother Tommy, sister Mairéad and extended family.

Poignantly, the 33-year-old's passing occurred just hours before a cancer fundraiser she had helped to organise.

"On behalf of Limerick GAA we would like to express our deepest sympathies to our Cathaoirleach John, Patsy, Tommy, Mairead and the extended Cregan Family on the passing of Mary," a statement from Limerick GAA read. All activities in the Limerick West Board have been suspended this weekend as a mark of respect.

Mary's funeral Mass will take place in St. Bartholomew’s Church, Dromcollogher on Monday at 12.30pm, followed by burial afterwards in the local cemetery.

May she rest in peace.
