SENIOR HURLERS

Our senior hurlers qualified for yet another Munster Club Hurling final following a good victory over Tipperary Champions Clonoulty Rossmore in the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday.

Unchanged from the County Final the lads started really well and had 5 points on the board inside 10 minutes.

Indeed it could have been worse for Clonoulty had two goal chances been taken early on as we increased our lead

It was on 20 minutes we made it 1-11 to 0-4 with a goal from Kevin Downes and this was swiftly followed by the first of 2 Peter Casey goals on the stroke of half time to give us a 2-13 to 0-5 half time lead.

There was some excellent hurling in the half with Ronan Lynch, Will O Donoghue, Adrian Breen and Peter Casey to the fore.

The work rate was excellent also and the lads worked extremely hard when not in possession.

We lost our talisman Shane Dowling towards the end of the half along with Ronan Lynch and Kieran Kennedy in the second half. This was also testiment to our panel where all 6 substitutes saw game time with Tommy Grimes chipping in with 2 second half points.

With 9 different scorers on the day it was a good spread with Peter Casey on top with 2-2, Adrian Breen 0-06, Kevin Downes 1-1, Shane Dowling 0-5f, Ronan Lynch 0-3, Tommy Grimes 0-2 and a point each from Alan Dempsey, David Dempsey and Conor Boylan. Peter Casey added a third goal 5 minutes into the second half to seal a victory that looked on from inside the first few minutes.

We now remain unbeaten in the Munster Club Championship with 12 wins now in a row and here is hoping we can make it 13 on November 18th where we face Waterford champions Ballygunner probably in Thurles.

We thank all our young supporters who made plenty of noise on the day with special mention for our trumpet player and the drummers.

Team: Podge Kennedy, Jerome Boylan, Mike Casey, Kieran Kennedy, Ronan Lynch, Will O Donoghue(capt), Cathal King, Alan Dempsey, Gordon Brown, David Dempsey, Shane Dowling, Conor Boylan, Adrian Breen, Kevin Downes, Peter Casey. Subs used: Mike Foley, James O Brien, Kevin Ryan, Tommy Grimes, Conor Houlihan, Pat Gleeson.

Final Score Na Piarsaigh 3-22 Clonoulty Rossmore 0-13
